Springfield, IL…Rep. Steve Reick (R-63) made the following statement about his speech on the House floor concerning the proper use of American Community Survey (ACS) data:
“There’s been a lot of talk about using the ACS data to inform the redistricting process in Illinois in light of the delay in needed federal census data. Last night, I discussed the proper use and limits of ACS data, which is not meant to be used in the map-making process. We only get to do this once every 10 years, so we cannot afford to make mistakes. Legislative maps must be drawn using the most complete and accurate population data to ensure every Illinoisan is fairly represented.”
