State Rep. Steve Reick’s Statement on McHenry County Redistricting

Woodstock, IL…State Rep. Steve Reick (R-63) issued the following statement in advance of the House Redistricting Committee hearing re: McHenry County to be held Friday, April 9:

“I strongly encourage the residents of McHenry County to participate in tomorrow’s House Redistricting Committee hearing, which will discuss redrawing the political boundaries that will determine the electoral map for the next ten years. You can watch the hearing by clicking on Watch Live Virtual Room 1 Video at 10:00 am.

We have a once-in-a-decade opportunity to redraw the legislative and congressional districts here in Illinois. Historically, this has been an extremely partisan process–and it’s even more complicated this time around due to a delay in the release of needed federal census data.

The map-making process in Illinois must be transparent in order to ensure fair representation at the state, local and federal levels of government. Representative democracy works best when citizens actively engage in policy considerations that inevitably have an effect on their lives and livelihoods. One of the ways to do this is by filing a “witness slip” so committee members know that people are paying attention. If interested, there is an option to request to speak on the record or to submit written testimony. If you have an opinion you would like to share, now is the time. Please don’t squander this opportunity to participate in the process.”
